Who Am I?

Where am I?  How did I get here?  Where am I going?  What's going on? Oh yeah...now I remember.  I'm Jen.  That's me, sitting on a rock in a river in Montana, in the summer of 1996.  I have better glasses now.

"Wherever you go, there you are."

I live in Newton, Massachusetts.  I work for The Princeton Review, managing MCAT and GRE courses in eastern Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire. So far, I have two publications to my name (one from my undergraduate program in geology, one from my time in a graduate program in geology).  I have a talented, sexy husband, three ferrets, and a lovely half-a-house just a couple of blocks away from the Charles River..

These days, I'm...

Meet my friends!

Meet my family!

Playing more flute than I had been for a long while

Meaning to get back to my yoga class

Reading Gene Wolfe, but not really getting it (if you've read him, you probably know what I mean)

Editing the manual for the roleplaying game based on the video game developed by my husband and his colleagues

Josh and Kelley have put up a page for their adorable babies

Stefan has published a novel, and has some short stories available online

The rest of my friends don't have webpages -- yet.  Bad friends!

My parents live in Texas: Mom's a chemist by education, a manager by profession, at Southwest Research Institute; Dad's an endocrinologist in private practice.  My younger brother graduated from Harvard Law (yeah, I'm kind of proud of him!) and is an associate at Jones Day.

"I've been ionized, but I'm okay now."

My parents drove me here in 1997.  From San Antonio.  With a U-Haul.  It was... um... an experience driving that U-Haul through the godforsaken nightmare that is Boston traffic; I'd advise others not to try this if it's at all avoidable.

A very brief, very expurgated personal history
I was born in Dallas, Texas on Labor Day (heh), 1975. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas. I had a happy home life and a relatively uneventful education.  In 1997, I received my bachelor's degree in geology from Southern Methodist University.   Then I moved here.

Details, for those very few who might  care

St. Luke's Catholic School (1-8)  ||  John Marshall High School (9-12)  ||  Game clerk at Fiesta Texas (2 summers)
Various minor awards, honors, scholarships, and "scholastic" trips throughout

Professionally
I'm about to embark on a career change – from geology to teaching to test prep to ... (drumroll please) editing! That last step might not appear as an entirely, um, logical career move, but trust my friends and family on this one – it's the job I was born for.

Unprofessionally?
My duet partner and I are planning a recital once we get our stuff where we want it ... I've been meaning for years to paint a set of sushi plates at the Clayroom ... If I were ever in good enough shape, I'd love to hike the Appalachian Trail (even in bits and pieces) ... well, huh. All of my big future plans right now are professional, it seems.

Trips I plan to take ... someday

New Zealand

the Scottish highlands and the Lake District (again)

the Florida Keys

Ireland

the White Mountains, New Hampshire

the south of France

San Francisco/Napa Valley/Big Sur

North Africa (Tunisia? Morocco? definitely Egypt)

London (again)

Venice
