Night Flight

Night flight...
Through my dim gloomy shadow in the window
I watch civilization's lights
Sprawled over the vast dark still sleeping earth,
A glimmering toxic fungus in the cold night.

I am inverted...
Lying against the night I fall upward to the ground
Where all the stars have fallen.
I am absorbed, consumed by darkness and light.

The world is this jet
Full of false yellow light and brown shadows,
The motions of hands and the rustling of pages
Whispers of breath moving over dry lips and throats.

We are a mechanical fish swimming slowly over
A phophorescent net
Glittering under the wash of invisible waves
In a vast black aquarium.
I watch through the thick glass of my window.
Blooms of light coat the dark ground.
The world is inside me; I am not.
